fun in classes and on weekends

very generic title, i know, but i want to get a bunch of pictures in here that ive been neglecting that i really want to show. they make me smile big big smiles so i hope you like them too.

first of all, let me tell you about 3p.

3p is a room in the Furness dorm. it has bunk beds in it. bottom bunkbottom bunk

a dear friend of mine in my section lives there. her name is Rikki. i do believe youve already met her in my posts. my Rikki Tikki Tavii do believe youve met Rikki alreadyshe enjoys cigarettes.

Rikki lives with three other girls. Tara, Alyssa, and Emily. youve briefly met Emily too. Emily and Rikkimeet EmilyEmily is blurry. but she wants to be a film major.

as if this dorm room wasnt already crazy enough with these occupants, two other people are there so frequently that they may as well live there, too. their names are Ante and Scott.

Meet Ante.
Ante is a music major, an upright bassist. Ante is Finnish, or was at least born in Finland. im not sure of the story, and im certainly not sure on the spelling of his name. everybody say “Hi Ante!”meet AnteAnte is a music majorhi is Finnish and plays upright bass

Meet Scott.
Scott is also a music major, he plays piano. Scott is not Finnish. Scott is sarcastic, or at least grew up to be sarcastic. im not sure of the story, but im certainly sure that its really funny to listen to his comments. Everybody say “Hi Scott!”meet ScottScott is not Finnish. but he is a music major.scott plays piano

whenever i tell stories about going out to applebys or first friday or to a party or being silly anywhere, it most likely involves these people.

for example-
last weekend we walked in the rain to Old City Philly to see the galleries on first friday. Travis and Dan also came. rain walkersoff we goneat streetwe werent a fan of this gallerytravis writes on windows in finger fonts

Rikki and I dressed up in skirts and stockings and long coats. i wore cute, but painful shoes.shoes and stockings.too much walking. we were tired of walking. which is why we took the subway back home after we were done at first friday. it was an excellent decision. rikki red travis tantravis red rikki tanstrawberry shapeshe doesnt like her profile. i do.hmmhmmmmboys.action!tired from walking, ready for the train.)cozylaughhhterrr!) travis glowsladydans la gare (on the train)
then we basically goofed off in their dorm all night. its routine.

jump to this past week, in class. 3d, as the case may be. we were restless. fancy that!
so Ari got some dance lessons from Kamillah.P1010209.JPGbreak it downP1010215.JPG

what i do love
what keeps me sane
are my electives.
while i have no pictures from Spanish dance,
i do have some pictures of, pictures.
i took some shots of the photograms i made in freshman photography. photograms are kindof a review for me because i had experience with them in highschool, but it was still a blast to make them. i never thought id be excited about a photogram. check it out.photograms!P1010240.JPGP1010238.JPGi love that dress stocking stuffer keyssistine chapel cieling anyone?

random- i bought a sweet hat offline. its a purple trojan-warrior-mowhawk hat. its a great conversation piece.yay for mowhawks and ten cent teeshirtsP1010269.JPG

back to 3p. this past weekend, after a late friday night and sleep over in Rikki’s room, her, Emily, Alyssa and I all went to a diner for breakfast/lunch. leckfast. more commonly referred to as brunch. whatever floats your boat. it was a great time, almost out of a movie. i love hanging out with those girls because wherever we go, we laugh loudly. and people look at us because we smile and laugh near-incessantly. and i dont feel self conscious about people looking at us. and its a great feeling to be able to admit that :) row of peeps on stoolsmeet an un-flattering picture of alyssa. what to orderrrralyssa is the man! awwwamazing

february 13th, 2007. was. a. very. much. needed. SNOWDAY.
snowsnowmoremore.

somebody in heaven was listening to my persistant complaining/overstressing/woes/doubts/needforsleep. they heard me and the other kids here and must’ve said at the heaven meeting that night, “hey! lets give em’ a snowday!”

and so it was.

so
so
so
perfect.

my roommate, neighbor and i made waffles. and then devoured them.
roomate loves snowdays.dork. loves. snowdays. too.)with a waffle maker on her headtest run waffletest runyummmP1010333.JPG

then i caught up on hooommeework which seems to be eating my soul lately. i mean that in the least grotesque way possible. dirty paint waterRA paperwork

then we cleaned. or rather my roommate cleaned (it had been a while since her last turn). i am so proud of our room now. its mopped and tidied and the stove is clean and pots and pans no longer clutter the counter and her wall is no longer naked!
CLEAAAANNNNN OH MY GOOSHHHdecoratingcatherine decorating
then i did more homeworkplasterLOTS of plaster,
got dressed,
and went out with friends to dinner for valentines day :)
we trekked around in the snow for quite some time trying to find a place that hadnt closed early.

it seems like the world shuts down when it snows here.
very strange for me, because im from central/upstate new york where it can snow taller than you and they still wont cancel anything.

i like the departure :)

regardless, we finally stopped at appleby’s. good ol’ applebys. i dont have any pictures from it because i was laughing too much. that was a wonderful wonderful evening

legitimate post!

now’s the time to post something relevant to people wanting to come to UArts. versus the last post which was simply pictures of my favorite place in the world…..iii mean… next to philadelphia of course…. ahem.

nearly three weeks into the 2nd semester. its exciting. and i already feel happier than i did last semester. the workload is seemingly heavier, BUT its okay because the subject matter (in my opinion) is ten times better than last semester.

not to mention im taking two electives this go round, versus last semester’s grand total of electives = NONE.

so needless to say, im rarely bored. scratch that.

im rarely not busy. :) classes have been great though.

in 2d we finally get to get messy with paint and use… COLORS! HOORAY! never thought id be that exhilerated about color acrylics. it is expensive, sadly, but fun. i previously underestimated how many different kinds of yellow there could be. i dream in cadmiums. its intense.color yay! its too phtalos and not azo enough...P1010023.JPGmessy funjisoooooo! her rinse water looks like juicemmmmmthrilledari winkleman. also thrilled.steve is basically the manrecipes. sweet legible handwriting.heyyy product placementwe dont believe in coat racks.

aannnyway, drawing- we’ve moved beyond cubes and boxes and rulers and bleeehhhhh and on to organic shapes, composition, contour, and eventually shading. it makes me happy that we get to explore and analyze something different. first perspective, then contour and form, and soon, the ever challenging study of light. plus we get to draw those funny wooden manniquins. we’ve mostly all named ours. im not sure what mine should be called. rikki hard at workP1010003.JPGP1010004.JPG

my section/class switched teachers for 3d, so we have a new guy now. hes extremely different than our other teacher. which isnt bad. just different. its really really refreshing to get a new perspective and outlook on the subject. new feedback, new lessons, new assignments, new aesthetics. its neat. im not quite sure how to read him yet though. he has a very sharp, sarcastic personality. kindof like those guys in the movies where theyre really tough acting in front of a group of people, but really really kind and more gentle and personable one-on-one. some days i like him and some days i dont. i’ll keep you posted on that. we still goof off like crazy in 3d though, regardless of who’s teaching ;) P1010006.JPGthis is my face on a day when i dont like 3djisookori will kill me for putting this up

my electives basically rule. photography, although sortof a review class for me because i have alot of experience from highschool, is really enjoyable. it feels so so so good to get back in a dark room. plus i like knowing what im doing because sometimes other kids in the class notice and ask me for help. i love helping, trying to break things down from possible jargen and confusing explinations into regular terms and just, go slow with it. it feels good to help out, plus its new friends to be made.

the other elective im taking (which i was only able to squeeze into my allowed credits because its only worth 1.0 versus studio electives with 1.5) is spanish dance

i encourage anybody who doesnt major in dance to TAKE A DANCE CLASS :) its a blast and theres a great mix of dancers and non-dance majors in the class so the support system feels really great. maybe i just got lucky. but im thinking that the vibe carries over into most dance classes. i hope so. my teacher is great. she instructs Flamenco, while her husband plays spanish guitar right there in the room. last time he had a friend with him and so there were two guitarists. it was so incredibly beautiful to listen to, and therefore fantastically inspiring. i still tripped up alot. but it was a fantastic time and i really think im getting better.

my electives feel like such a treat- high-quality dark rooms, beautiful music to dance to… its a luxury instead of a class!

the next post will most likely consist of some products of photo class,

as well as the products of a long week= a wonderfully fabulous adventure on a rainy friday evening.
you’ll just have to wait. i know the suspense is killer.

until next time*
